Z-Wave
Sub-GHz mesh for reliable home automation
Official spec ↗Z-Wave
Z-Wave is a mesh protocol for home automation operating in the sub-GHz band, giving it less interference and better penetration than 2.4 GHz solutions like ZigbeeProtocolZigbeeVeteran 2.4 GHz mesh — backbone of many smart home hubsView profile or Wi-Fi. Each mains-powered device acts as a repeater, forming a mesh of up to 232 nodes.
Its strong suit is certified interoperability: the Z-Wave logo guarantees products from different vendors work together. Since 2020 its specification was opened up, expanding the ecosystem beyond Silicon Labs' original silicon.
