Sigfox

Ultra-narrowband LPWAN for tiny messages

Official spec ↗
Audio summary
0:00 / 0:00

Sigfox is an ultra-narrowband (UNB) LPWAN technology designed to send tiny messages (12-byte uplink, 8-byte downlink) with minimal power and a very low per-device cost. The network is run by a single provider (operator model); it is not deployed privately like LoRaWAN.

It is ideal for very-low-data, very-long-battery use cases: meters, presence/open detection, simple trackers. After Sigfox SA's financial troubles, the technology and network moved to UnaBiz.

Compatible devices

  • Meters and utility metering
  • Simple low-data trackers
  • Presence and open/close sensors
