Ubiquitous high-bandwidth IP connectivity

Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11) is the backbone of home and office IP connectivity, and in IoT it became popular thanks to cheap chips like the ESP8266 and ESP32, which connect a device directly to the local network and the cloud with no intermediate gateway.

Its advantage is bandwidth and ubiquity; its drawback is power consumption, which makes it ill-suited to long-life battery sensors. For that gap, Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah, sub-GHz) offers lower power and far greater range, expressly aimed at IoT.

Compatible devices

  • ESP32 / ESP8266 and Wi-Fi SoCs
  • Cameras and connected appliances
  • Gateways and access points
